I totally understand that planning a months worth, a quarters worth, or a years worth of social media content feels like a lot. But actually, planning your 2025 social media content is easier than you think – you just need a structured approach.

1. Start with what you need to promote

It sounds simple, but to make a start, look ahead at your key events for the year and list the following:

  • Any events that you need to promote – include events, exhibitions, workshops and training days.
  • Relevant local / national holidays that impact your business and target audience.
  • Dates for key campaigns, such as new product launches or seasonal campaigns.
  • Relevant National Days and awareness days which you can tie into marketing campaigns.
  • Any other important dates.

Once you have these key dates in place, you can look at filling your calendar with posts to make sure that you have your key promotions covered.

2. Build your plan around your needs

Once you’ve identified what you need to promote and plotted it into your calendar, you’re ready for the next step. Be sure to remember your marketing funnel here – content has to do more than just telling someone when your event is. It should also help curious visitors discover more and showcase how you’ve helped previous customers.

So, look at your events and think of related topics that will help you to share more educational and brand building content. For example, posts based around national days and awareness days can help when you’re looking to showcase your brand values and ethos, and help keep your page relevant to your audience.

In other words, if you care about it, post about it.

4. Scheduling your content ahead of time

You could have the best content in the world, but your marketing strategy will fail to launch if you forget to post it. As a busy business owner you get sucked in to last minute things that need your undivided attention. By scheduling your social media content ahead of time you can tick it off your list as one less thing to worry about.

A social media scheduling tool can be really helpful for this. It enables you to post batches of content in advance across multiple platforms. My top tip is to set aside an afternoon or two a month, to schedule your posts for the month ahead.

As well as boosting your efficiency, scheduling tools often provide useful features such as engagement monitoring, editing posts to optimise them for different platforms, and managing comments.
