If you’re ready to make 2026 the year your social media finally feels organised, you’re in the right place. Let’s start with a mantra to shift your mindset: planning ahead isn’t about being rigid, it’s about being intentional and giving yourself more freedom in the process.
When you have a clear overview of why you’re posting and what your audience actually needs from you, you’ll save hours of weekly panic-posting. Your brand will become more consistent and authentic and you’ll create content that genuinely supports your business goals.
Before we dive in, grab my FREE 2026 Social Media Planner. It’s designed to guide you through all the steps below, with space to map out ideas, campaigns and some AI prompts to save you even more time. Each step below matches up with a tab on my FREE planner – so download yours below to get started.

Step 1. Build solid foundations for planning your 2026 social media content
Let’s start with the foundations tab. It might seem simple but don’t skip this step. The more time you spend defining your services and target audience the more you’ll feel focussed on exactly what you’re offering and exactly who your audience is.
Take time to outline the following:
- Your services
- What you want to achieve
- Who is your target audience?
- How do you currently attract, convert, and retain your audience?
This will help to paint a picture of what you’re currently doing to see if there are any gaps and help you pinpoint any other marketing channels you might need to develop in order for your social media marketing to be more effective.
Step 2. Complete the events planner
Start with what you already know you need to promote: launches, events, busy seasons, key campaigns, booking cycles.
Then add everything into the Monthly Overview. Think about lead times:
- When do people usually book?
- When do you want them to book?
- How far ahead do you need to start warming them up?
This instantly gives your content purpose and structure.

Step 3. Use AI to help you plan your social media content
My 2026 social media planner includes AI Prompts to help you use AI strategically rather than randomly.
Here’s how to maximise it:
Prompt 1 – Building out your monthly social media content planner
Using the information you complete in the foundations tab, fill in the blanks of the prompt below and insert it into an AI tool like Chat GPT
- I’m creating an annual planner for [YEAR], producing content for [SOCIAL MEDIA CHANNEL / BLOG / NEWSLETTER]. My target audience are [INSERT]. The main challenges I solve for them are [INSERT]. The services I offer or events I’m running include [INSERT]. Taking all this into account, create a planner with 3 core content pillars that speak to my audience’s challenges at different times of the year.
Prompt 2 – Highlighting relevant National days
With your audience in mind, you can then use a second prompt to ask AI for relevant national days which may resonate with your target audience.
- Keeping the above in mind – share any relevant National Days for the UK and world days / months which would be worth planning content campaigns around.
You could even try going deeper by using further prompts to fill out your monthly overview – Try thinking about your business or organisation specifically and ask AI for information about relevant local and industry Events too.
- “What local events might interest this audience?”
- “What industry events should I be aware of?”
Use whatever helps you shape a richer, more relevant plan.

Step 4. Planning your 2026 social media monthly overview
Now it’s time to pull together your key events and when to promote each of your services throughout the year. Use the information gathered from the Events Planner and your AI prompts to start adding in your important dates, core themes for social media and you’ll soon have an overview for your year taking shape before your eyes!.
I’ve added in two tabs for Newsletter Campaigns and Paid Ads – you can add in or take out different marketing channels or tactics if you want to expand outside of social media.
Step 5. Drill down into more detail each month and schedule your social media content
There’s no point creating a winning strategy and the best content in the world if you forget to post it! That’s why scheduling your content ahead of time is an absolute must. My top tip? Set aside an afternoon each month to schedule the next month’s content.
If you don’t have a scheduling tool you can use the 2026 social media calendar tab to start writing and plotting your content. Think about how often you can commit to constantly posting – whether it’s twice a week or 5 times a week. Consistency is key and I’d always advocate for quality and consistency over quantity.
A scheduling tool lets you upload batches of posts in advance and auto-publish across multiple platforms. Scheduling tools can also help with:
- Engagement monitoring
- Editing posts for different platforms
- Managing comments
- Tracking what’s performing well

- Metricool -This is by far the best scheduler I have used! With fantastic analytics tools, link in bio integrated tool, integrated ads and much more. I use the paid version so I can access all the features. Best for: powerful scheduling and analytics.
- Flodesk – A user friendly, great value platform for emails, forms, and e-comms. Best for: simple, beautiful email marketing.

With the right steps (and the right planner!) getting on top of your 2026 content becomes simple and strategic.
You don’t NEED to post everyday to succeed with social media for your business, just stick to what feels manageable for you and be consistent posting social media content with intention and with purpose.
If you post with clear messaging, authenticity and share content that aligns with your goals – you won’t add to the noise, you’ll add value and speak to YOUR people.
